Do you really need WebSockets?

People mostly use WebSockets whenever they need a real-time web component. Turns out WebSockets aren't the best solution for everything.

Over the years I've had this conversation a couple of times.

People use WebSockets without knowing what they are, why they use them or what alternatives exist.

Existing alternatives provide advantages such as universal compatibility, simple implementations and low upkeep.

This talk will give you an overview of how WebSockets and the alternatives work, and when you sould use one or the other.
